Liverpool v Chelsea

Liverpool and Chelsea fail to produce a classic encounter; both sides struggle to goalless draw It was evident, however, that there was enough quality on the pitch to create something better than the monument to mediocrity erected by the two sides over the 90 minutes. The Premier League table demonstrates the story of how the two sides, who have been chasing major prizes in recent years, have recently dropped from their former standards. At the final whistle, Liverpool were in eighth place and Chelsea two places behind them, nine points off the top four and the coveted Champions League spots after a dull game with just five shots on target. It was certainly not a way for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to celebrate his 1,000th match in management. The dominant feeling after this game, apart from deep anticlimax, was that if you offered both Klopp and Chelsea boss Graham Potter a place in the top four at the end of the season, they would accept it with great enthusiasm.
