Liverpool FC Europa League Clash: Team News and Updates for LASK Match
In preparation for Thursday's highly anticipated Europa League match against LASK, Liverpool FC has assembled a robust 23-man squad, although they will have to navigate the fixture without the services of two key players, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Thiago Alcantara. In a dramatic showdown at Molineux, Liverpool displayed their mettle as they scored two late goals to secure a stunning comeback win against a resilient Wolves side. This victory propelled them to the top of the Premier League standings, solidifying their position as a formidable force in English football.
Andy Robertson, celebrating his 200th Premier League appearance, etched his name into Liverpool's history by breaking the deadlock on the 85th minute mark. Then, the talented substitute, Harvey Elliott, played a pivotal role in sealing the victory during stoppage time as his shot deflected off Hugo Bueno, resulting in an own goal.
The early stages of the second half saw Cody Gakpo level the scoreline with a clinical finish, capitalizing on Mohamed Salah's precise cross-shot.
During the initial half, it was the home side that dominated proceedings. Pedro Neto's exceptional wing play set the stage for Hwang Hee-Chan to open the scoring, sending the Molineux faithful into raptures.
Jurgen Klopp's men showcased their resilience yet again, recovering from a sluggish first half in which they were overrun in midfield and entered the break trailing. Klopp's halftime substitutions, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, injected fresh energy into the squad.
Diaz, just 90 seconds into his appearance, came close to breaking the deadlock with a header from Robertson's pinpoint cross. Moments later, a spell of intricate passing involving Diaz and others led to Mohamed Salah delivering a drilled cross-shot, which Gakpo calmly slotted home to restore parity.
Nunez then threatened to put Liverpool ahead, but his effort was thwarted by a combination of goalkeeper Jose Sa and defender Max Kilman.
As the match progressed, Wolves appeared fatigued, and Liverpool appeared more likely to score. With just five minutes remaining, Robertson, wearing the captain's armband in the absence of the suspended Virgil van Dijk, raced onto Salah's precise through-ball and clinically slotted the ball home from close range.
Elliott provided the finishing touch to the victory late in the game, although his goal was ultimately credited as an own goal by Wolves' defender Bueno due to a deflection.
Despite suffering their fourth defeat in five games this season, Wolves showed glimpses of promise, especially in the first half. Midfielders Joao Gomes and Mario Lemina applied relentless pressure on Liverpool players, while Neto's dazzling wing play set the stage for their opening goal.
However, Wolves faded in the second half, failing to register a shot on target. Their upcoming clash with fellow strugglers Luton takes on added significance as they seek to climb the Premier League ladder.
