Champions League Ajax 0 Liverpool 3

Liverpool put their domestic problems behind them by moving on to the knockout round of the Champions League against Ajax in Amsterdam.

The Reds were fortunate not to fall behind before Mohamed Salah's solitary chance on goal of the first half went in, as they needed a draw to advance to the round of 16.
With an open goal in front of him, Darwin Nunez, who returned to the starting lineup following injury, should have increased the lead before halftime.

However, the £64 million summer addition hit the post instead. The Uruguayan attacker immediately made up for it, though, by precisely heading in an Andy Robertson corner just after the break. Following a reverse feed from Salah, England Under-21 midfielder Harvey Elliott added a third goal.

Liverpool handed three favourable festive fixture changes

The Premier League's holiday schedule is always entertaining for spectators, frustrating for managers, and upsetting for families, but Liverpool fans will be pleased to see how this year's games turn out. According to the club website, the following adjustments were made for television: 'Liverpool vs Aston Villa, Monday, December 26 (5.30pm, Amazon Prime Video). Leicester City at Liverpool on Friday, December 30 (8pm, Sky Sports). Monday, January 2 (5.30 p.m., Sky Sports): Brentford vs. Liverpool. There are no easy games in this division, and while there's no doubting that there could be some, it's not always the competition we are up against that is advantageous.

Liverpool is once more turning to the Champions League to recover from a disappointing loss in the English Premier League. A trip to Amsterdam for the Merseysiders' group stage match against Ajax offers the tantalising possibility of advancement to the knockout stages, provided at least a draw is obtained..

It will be much easier to accomplish that goal with the probable returns of Thiago Alcantara (out with an ear infection) and Darwin Nunez (not risked due to a minor muscle issue). Jurgen Klopp is set to select a center-back pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez once more in place of Alisson Becker in goal.

Jordan Henderson and our No. 6 appear ready to return to the centre.
